PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare says testing of persons under quarantine has commenced.

The Prime Minister said as of Friday and Saturday last week, a total of 77 persons have been tested.

He said those tested were passengers on the repatriation flight from Brisbane.

“All tests have returned negative,” he said.

The Prime Minister said testing for passengers from Fiji and Vanuatu have also being currently conducted.

“It must be made clear that they are not tested because they are suspects. These tests are part of the quarantine process,” he said.

The Prime Minister said there are currently 187 persons in quarantine centers.

Prime Minister Sogavare said the health ministry’s surveillance team continues to do regular monitoring in all quarantine facilities.

He said this surveillance is necessary for prompt clinical management should a person develops COVID-19 symptom like illness.

“All COVID-19 clinical teams – triage, isolation, medical laboratory, radiology and specialized teams are on standby mode should there be a case that triggers activation, call-outs will be made by the NHEOC to all team leaders,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister said since February 2020, a total of 17 COVID-19 tests have been undertaken altogether, 13 were done overseas and four done in-country.

He said all tests were negative.

Solomon Islands remain amongst the 12 nations around the world that are COVID-19 free.
