PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare says security in the region is a collective responsibility.

The Prime Minister highlighted this when he met two defence advisers from Australia and New Zealand at the Office of the Prime Minister & Cabinet today.

The advisers are Chief of the Australian Defence Force, General Angus J Campbell and Chief of the New Zealand Defence Force Air Marshall Kevin R Short.

Prime Minister Sogavare said all countries in the pacific region have a responsibility to look after each other.

“We occupy a peaceful corner of the world and we must keep it that way,” he said.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged Australia and New Zealand for taking the lead in providing security in the pacific region.

Chief of the New Zealand Defence Force Air Marshall Kevin R Short when responding to the Prime Minister said that security in the region is paramount.

“We are committed in making this region a safer place for our people,” he said.

Chief of the Australian Defence Force General Angus J Campbell also shared similar sentiments stating that security is top of the agenda.

General Campbell said Australia is committed in making sure the pacific region remains a community of nations that live together peacefully in a peaceful region.

Discussions were also based on border security in the Western and Eastern parts of the country.
