Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) in Auki have arrested a 30-year-old man for alleged attempted murder following an incident that occurred in the Kwaibaita area in East Kwaio, Malaita Province in 2019

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Inspector Charles Eddie Koto says the suspect was arrested in 2019 after the incident but he escaped from police during the investigation into the matter.

“RSIPF officers at Auki successfully raided and arrested the suspect at the Auki main market during the night of 3 February 2020.The suspect was inside one of the market stalls when the police surrounded and arrested him.”

Inspector Koto says the suspect has been on the run for almost a year. He has now been placed in police custody awaiting a further remand application as the investigation into the matter in 2019 continues.

“I would like to thank members of the public and stakeholders for their positive response to police calls for assistance which led to the successful arrest of the suspect. Keep that spirit of working together to make our communities free from crime,” says Inspector Koto.
