Dear Editor, please consider this letter.

It was reported today, Wednesday, that the Solomon Islands government is believed to have appointed a three-man committee, which will take the next stage of the inquiry into the MV Taimareho tragedy.

Twenty-seven people, mostly high school students perished in the tragedy which occurred early on Friday morning 03rd April this year…

Following the tragic incident and the loss of so many lives, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare met with the MP for West Are’are constituency, Hon. John Maneniaru and the relatives of the victims to express his personal condolences to the families and relatives of the 27 citizens who were reportedly washed overboard from the MV Taimareho…

The meeting was held after Parliament was adjourned following the debate on the Prime Minister’s motion to extend the state of public emergency.

The Prime Minister said the deaths of 27 were unimaginable, and he urged all to unite in prayers to support the families.

It has been revealed this morning that Premier Daniel Suidani met Tenaru’s Deputy Principal Abraham who lost his wife, three children and a brother in the MV Taimareho sea tragedy.

Premier Daniel Suidani spent Easter with the family of those who lost their lives at sea and commented he was happy and satisfied to have finally met with the bereaved families as he was wondering how painful their lives had become.

It cannot really be understood, I feel, the very deep sense of loss the bereaved families are now enduring and I thank Prime Minister Sogavare for expressing his condolences and special thanks to Premier Suidani for having taken the time of spending Easter with the relatives grieving their lost ones.

Yours sincerely

Frank Short
