Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Auki Malaita Province have arrested a male suspect for damaging three shops and the dangerous driving of vehicle on 14 June 2020 in the township.

Acting Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province Superintendent William Foufaka says, “The male suspect, a local businessman from Gwaunasu’u Village in North Malaita, was believed to be under the influence of liquor. He drove his vehicle at a very high speed through the main street of Auki causing fear to pedestrians and other vehicles.”

“The suspect also hit three shops causing damages to the buildings. The suspect was arrested for malicious damage and dangerous driving of a vehicle. The suspect has been placed in police custody awaiting formal charges.”

“Some immediate relatives of the arrested suspect called into my office and demanded the release of this suspect on the grounds that he is a prominent businessman. I advised them that my office will not compromise its role as the law enforcement agency in this country. As a business leader, the suspect should show more responsibility and not act in a way that will only demean his status in the community,” PPC Superintendent Foufaka emphasises.
